UAF will continue to offer one-credit recreation classes during the fall semester in more than 30 topics ranging from yoga and rock climbing to jazz dance and weight lifting. The only change will be that the Tanana Valley Campus will administer the program instead of the College of Liberal Arts. TVC Director Jake Poole said the switchover will be "invisible" to the students.

"They will still be taught in the same locations, such as the Student Recreation Center, the Patty Gym, and other sites on campus as needed," said Poole.

Poole said there have been rumors on campus and in the community that the university would no longer offer recreation classes because this fall’s courses did not make it into the UAF fall class schedule. Other rumors, said Poole, were circulating that the university would offer the classes but they would not be for credit.

"Neither of those rumors are true," said Poole. "The transition to TVC didn’t happen in time to make the printed UAF Fall Class Schedule, but next semester’s courses are listed online and they will be printed in the Fall 2004 TVC Community Bulletin, which will be available in June."

Poole added that it is"extremely important" that the courses remain for credit. "Many students rely on those one-credit classes to help meet the required credit load for financial aid and scholarships," said Poole. "It’s also equally important that we give our students the opportunity to exercise their bodies as well as their minds."
