Lauren Bruce is Director of the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence, the faculty development center at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and Associate Professor of Communication at UAA.

Since joining the university in 1990, Lauren has served in leadership capacities on most of its major governance bodies, including President of the UAA Faculty Senate, Chair of the UA Faculty Alliance, Chair of the UA Presidential Search Evaluation Committee, and member of the UAA Accreditation Committee. Her efforts have moved the University forward on a broad spectrum of fronts, including initiatives towards multiculturalism and diversity, sustainability, student retention, faculty development, and a learner-centered campus.

Lauren has received numerous awards for service, including the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service, the UAA Faculty Senate Award for Service, and election to Phi Kappa Phi. Professor Bruce is also involved in the Anchorage theater community, having performed in key roles in productions by Eccentric Theatre Company and Kokopelli Theater.

The late Edith R. Bullock, a former regent and benefactor of the university, established the Bullock Prize for Excellence which is given annually by the University of Alaska Foundation Board of Trustees. The award is accompanied by $15,000, which makes it one of the largest of its kind among American universities.
