AAAS conference focuses on human dimensions of the arctic environment

The 55th AAAS Arctic Division Science Conference will take place in Anchorage, Sept. 29-Oct. 1, 2004. This year’s theme, Human Dimensions of the Arctic Environment, will include reports from the Russian session Vladivostok meeting, Bridges of Science between North America and the Russian Far East, that took place in mid-September.

The meeting will also include highlights of two Arctic Council efforts, plus opening and closing plenaries and nine parallel thematic sessions and posters on the abilities of arctic peoples to sustain their health, lifestyles and cultures and economies in the face of natural and human-induced stresses.

Ths year marks the 10th anniversary of the first joint session with Russia and the U.S. Iceland’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council concludes in October 2004 and is highlighted by the publication Arctic Climate Impact Assessment and the Arctic Human Development Report.
