University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Steve Jones will share his vision of the university with the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce at its general membership luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004.

"I often refer to my vision of the university as going from good to great," said Jones. "Our staff, faculty, students, alumni and community supporters are keenly aware of the great work taking place at our campuses across the state; we’re already great. Perhaps the best way to describe my new vision for UAF is that we will transition the university to one that is also recognized as great by peer institutions, funding agencies, donors and other stakeholders across the country and around the globe."

Jones was named the fifth chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks by University President Mark Hamilton in May 2004 and assumed his new position in August. Jones comes to UAF from North Carolina, where he served as vice chancellor for extension and engagement at North Carolina State University.

The luncheon will take place at the Westmark Hotel Gold Room at noon.
