The Tanana Valley Campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will be celebrating its 30th anniversary the week of Oct. 18-22 with a series of free seminars and special events.

On Monday, Oct. 18, TVC Applied Business Professor Charlie Dexter will present a brown bag seminar on "Motivational Skills in the Workplace."? Dexter, who received the Emil Usibelli Award for Teaching in 2001, has done motivational seminars and customer service training to organizations across the state. The seminar will be held from 12-1p.m. in room 211 of the Tanana Valley Campus Center at 604 Barnette Street.

On Tuesday, Oct. 19, faculty from the TVC Allied Health program will present a seminar on "Healthy Habits for the Winter Months."? The seminar will focus on how to maintain good health this winter in areas such as nutrition, exercise, and dental care. Free blood pressure tests will follow the seminar, which will be held from 12-1p.m. in room 409 of the Tanana Valley Campus Center.

On Wednesday, Oct. 20, TVC Human Services Assistant Professor Bob Parr will present a seminar on "Tips for Dealing with the Winter Blues."? The seminar will give advice on how people can keep their spirits up when the sun is down, including examples of light box therapy. The seminar will be held from 12-1p.m. in room 203 of the Tanana Valley Campus Center.

On Thursday, Oct. 21, the public is invited to TVC’s 30th anniversary birthday bash from 5:30-7:30p.m. at the Tanana Valley Campus Center. The celebration will feature UAF door prizes, food, live music, and tours of the building.

TVC’s 30th anniversary week wraps up on Friday, Oct. 22, with a seminar on "Preparing Alaskans for Alaska’s Jobs: The TVC Process Technology Program."? The seminar will be presented by Jon Prater, assistant professor in the TVC process technology program, and will be held from 12-1p.m. in room 135D of the Hutchison Institute of Technology.

TVC first opened its doors to the public in 1974 as the Tanana Valley Community College. Over the years TVC has grown to become the fourth largest campus in the University of Alaska 16-campus system, with an enrollment of more than 3,000 students. The campus offers 40 certificate and associate degree programs in topics ranging from allied health to professional piloting.
