Chancellor’s convocation today

University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Steve Jones will address staff, faculty and students Thursday, Oct. 21 at fall convocation. The presentation will take place at 1 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium on the UAF campus. An ice cream social will kick off the event outside the auditorium at 12:15 p.m.

"UAF exemplifies three features I believe are essential to being a cutting-edge university: a focus on students; an emphasis on the whole person, including advancing the arts and humanities; and fostering life-long learning," Jones said. "We are committed to being a great university that educates, advances science and the arts, makes a difference in rural Alaska, and is a positive force for economic development in the Interior and beyond."

UA President Mark Hamilton and UAF Provost Paul Reichardt will participate in this year’s presentation.

This is Jones’ first convocation. He became the university’s fifth chancellor Aug. 1, 2004.
