Successful weekend for Nanooks

It was quite a successful weekend for the University of Alaska Fairbanks athletic teams last weekend. The volleyball and rifle teams swept their opponents, while the hockey team earned a split at Western Michigan and earned their first victory of the season.

Kyle Greentree’s third-period goal gave UAF the lead for good, and the Nanooks won 5-3 at Western Michigan Saturday. WMU won Friday, 5-4.

The volleyball team took over sole possession of fourth place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Nanooks defeated Northwest Nazarene Friday, 30-25, 30-25 and 30-20, and held off Seattle Saturday, 30-27, 30-28 and 36-34.

The rifle team swept Tennessee-Martin, scoring 4702 points Friday to UTM’s 4525 and 4445. Saturday, two UAF teams scored 4707 and 4647 points, while UT-Martin scored 4553 and 4456.
