The University of Alaska Fairbanks has made it easier for students to apply for more than $600,000 in privately funded scholarships.

Under the new procedure incoming undergraduate and graduate students are required to complete a single, double-sided scholarship application, which is included within the application for admission. Continuing students will complete a stand-alone scholarship application. Applications are available online.

This new, simplified scholarship application does not require a personal essay, transcripts or letters of recommendation to be considered for most scholarships. The application for admission still requires high school or undergraduate degree transcripts, but students are not required to include an extra copy for scholarship consideration.

All students must apply for scholarships by Feb. 15, 2005 to be considered for the 2005-2006 academic year. Incoming students who apply for admission after Feb.15, 2005 will not be considered for these scholarships for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Most scholarship eligibility will be determined from the official academic records database, so students should ensure that their records are as complete and accurate as possible. Some scholarships require additional essays or other information.

Applications are available online at www.uaf.edu/finaid/types/scholarships.html or in hard copy at the financial aid office and academic advising.
