Anita Hartmann, Director of Office of Research Development at UAF College of Liberal Arts, has recently been certified as an Institutional Review Board Professional, by the Council for Certification of IRB Professionals of the Applied Research Ethics National Association.
Voluntary certification is one part of a credentially process that focuses specifically on the individual and is an indication of current knowledge in a highly specialized area of practice. Certification for IRB professionals provides formal recognition of knowledge of IRB functions and human research protection programs.
Hartmann was appointed to the UAF Institutional Review Board in 2000 by Vice Provost for Research, Ted DeLaca. She was one of a team of 4 representing UAF at the recent Public Responsibility in Medicine & Research meeting in San Diego, Calif.; other representatives included: Kelly Hochstetler, Senior Research Compliance Officer; Miranda Wright of College of Rural Alaska; and Karen Lundquist of Fairbanks Convention & Visitors bureau who serves as community member on UAF’s Institutional Review Board.
