Nanook Women’s Basketball Team Falls to Cal State Bakersfield

TURLOCK, CA-Cal State Bakersfield took a 45-29 halftime lead and defeated the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ women’s basketball team, 87-66, at Warrior Arena Saturday evening.

Senior guard Adrienne Taalak (Nuiqsut, AK/Mount Edgecumbe HS) led the Nanooks with 19 points, senior forward Cody Burgess (Leavenworth, WA/Wenatchee Valley CC/Cascade HS) added 17, and Valerie Hartman added 11. The Nanooks outrebounded the Roadrunners, 34-29, but turned the ball over 26 times.

"We played hard, but it just wasn’t out night,"? said UAF Head Coach Lynne Andrew. "They came out and got the jump on us. We tried to play an aggressive defense, but we got tentative. We didn’t shoot the ball very well, and they did."? Alaska Fairbanks fell to 2-1 with the defeat, while CSUB improved to 1-1 with the win. UAF will return home to play Utah Valley State on Friday evening in the opening round of the Mount McKinley Bank/North Star Invitational Tournament.
