Debra DamronUniversity of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Steve Jones announced today that Debra Damron, director UAF Office of University Relations, has been appointed to lead the Cooperative Extension Service public information and communications office. Jones said that Damron will provide a coordinated, cohesive, focused approach to maximize the CES profile throughout the state.

"This is especially important this year during extension’s 75th year celebration, so that all Alaskans understand that CES is the gateway to their state university," said Jones.

Damron will serve as managing editor and oversee the information unit that supports extension offices and their programs statewide.

"Debra brings the skills and expertise necessary to rev up the communications arm, tap its full public relations potential and assist in taking us to the next level,"? said Tony Nakazawa, director of CES.

Ann Ringstad, associate vice chancellor for the Office of University Advancement and Community Engagement, will oversee UAF University Relations.

Alaska CES was established in 1930 under the leadership of Charles E. Bunnell, the University of Alaska’s first president. CES is an outreach educational delivery system, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, charged with interpreting and extending relevant research-based knowledge to the people of Alaska.

"I’m looking forward to working with the extension team to build on community partnerships and raise the visibility of the outreach programs that span the entire state," said Damron.

Damron has been with University Relations for 14 years, where she served as public information officer and has been the director since 1999. Her experience in media and public relations includes working as information officer for Gov. Steve Cowper; video producer for Tanana Chiefs Conference; and news director, producer and reporter at KTVF-TV, the NBC affiliate in Fairbanks. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and broadcasting from UAF.
