Hip hop legend visits during Black History Month

Leader and co-founder of legendary rap group Public Enemy, Chuck D, will speak at Hering Auditorium on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. Chuck D redefined rap music and hip hop culture with the release of PE’s explosive debut album, Yo Bum Rush The Show, in 1987. His messages address weighty issues about race, rage and inequality with a jolting combination of intelligence and eloquence never seen before.

Chuck D and Public Enemy were celebrated in the May 2004 issue of Rolling Stone magazine as one of the "fifty most important performers in rock & roll history."

The band has embarked on 51 tours, performing over 2000 concerts to fans in 53 countries. Three albums are certified multi-platinum; three more are gold, with four gold singles and a platinum-selling home video. He has collaborated with artists outside his genre such as Issac Hayes and John Mellencamp.

The concert is sponsored by the ASUAF Concert Board, UAF Student Activities Office and the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Tickets are on sale at the Wood Center front desk and Hoitt’s.
