The topic of internships will be presented at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday, March 1, at 1 p.m. in the Westmark Hotel Gold Room. The presentation will include Patti Picha, career experience coordinator at UAF, as well as an intern and a small business representative.
UAF Career Services defines an internship as a planned learning experience that provides an opportunity to gain practical, on-the-job training in a student’s field of interest. Internships serve as a bridge between the classroom and the work force. Internships are usually short-term, structured and involve a mentor. The emphasis is on learning rather than money. Compensation for intern work can come in a combination of money, academic credit, and/or a stipend for housing and/or other living expenses.
Career Services at UAF acts as a clearing house, assisting students in finding internship placement and helping employers find interns from the UAF student body.
