Jessica Larsen explains rock formations to 7-year-old Emily Lindley during the 2004 Science Potpourri in the Natural Sciences Facility.
The Fairbanks community will have a chance to explore the exciting world of science at the 12th annual College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Science Potpourri at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Saturday, April 9 from noon - 5 p.m. Kids of all ages can try their hand at hair-raising physics, combustible chemistry and gripping geology. Interactive experiments, exhibits and demonstrations will be on display at the Natural Sciences Facility on the UAF campus.

Featured fun includes making ice cream with liquid nitrogen, freezing flowers and cutting rocks. Visitors are encouraged to bring a favorite rock to the rock clinic. Participants can pour hot magma, peer at crystals through a microscope, cook with chemists and make soda pop and slime. Intrepid scientists can take a closer look at the human brain, robots and the inside of a volcano.

Free parking is available behind the Natural Sciences Facility at 900 Yukon Drive, between the upper residence halls and the UA Museum of the North.
