The biennial, multi-disciplinary Student Social Sciences Conference will take place Friday and Saturday April 15-16 on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. The theme of the conference is "Dynamics of Diversity." Conference presentations will explore how diversity was experienced, exhibited or embodied in the past, the issues debated today and the effect on the future and overall process of human diversity.

The conference begins Friday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the Wood Center lobby with an opening address by keynote speaker Phyllis Morrow, dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Poster presentations will be available for viewing from 5:30-9 p.m.

Students will make oral presentations Saturday, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the 4th floor of the Gruening building. Poster presentations will also be taking place in the lobby of the Wood Center during that time. Presentations and posters will showcase the work of both graduate and undergraduate students from various social sciences disciplines. An awards banquet to honor and recognize student achievements will take place at 6 p.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown ballroom.

The departments of psychology, anthropology, communication and sociology within the College of Liberal Arts contributed to the planning and implementation of this conference. The event is funded by the Institute of Arctic Biology and University of Alaska President’s Special Projects Fund and is free and open to the public.
