UAF Large Animal Research Station invites public to Birthday Party for the Babies

Get a close-up look at caribou, reindeer and muskoxen calves and their mothers at the Birthday Party for the Babies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Robert G. White Large Animal Research Station (LARS).

UAF’s Institute of Arctic Biology invites the public to celebrate the Station’s newest spring residents and get a sneak peak at the critters before LARS’ official season opening Memorial weekend.

The Birthday Party for the Babies will be Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Large Animal Research Station on Yankovich Road. Parking at LARS is limited. Birthday visitors are encouraged to park at UAF’s Taku parking lot off Farmers Loop and use the free shuttle to LARS. The shuttle will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Birthday Party will celebrate LARS’ youngest residents and all Fairbanks youth. The event will also showcase youth opportunities in our community. Representatives from Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, Boys and Girls Club, Camp Habitat and other non-profit organizations offering summer programs for kids will have information at the party and will be providing volunteer assistance during the event.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Kids’ Fish & Game (ADFG) Fun Day will be held at Creamer’s Field from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the same day. ADF&G and LARS encourage all Fairbanksans to come out for a free day of Alaska fun.

UAF’s Tanana Valley Campus Culinary Arts Department will contribute cakes, the Cooperative Extension Service and School of Education will help with activity tables, and the Music Department will provide musical accompaniment to the party. MAC Federal Credit Union, Tanana Valley Clinic, A&W Wholesale, First National Bank, Trademark, Horizon Services, Gene’s Chrysler and other local businesses contributed financial and in-kind support.
