The director of Athletics and Campus Recreation at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Dr. Cory Schwartz, has announced her resignation.

Schwartz will leave UAF at the end of this month to pursue other opportunities.

"I’m extremely proud of our student athletes, our coaches and their accomplishments, said Schwartz. "I have put together a good, strong staff and have enjoyed my time in Fairbanks and at UAF. I wish my staff much success in the future."?

The last three seasons rank among the most successful in UAF athletic history. The rifle team completed a streak of six consecutive NCAA Championships, the men’s basketball team advanced to the regional finals in each of the last two seasons, and the hockey team posted its best finish ever, coming in third at the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Super Six Tournament this spring. A women’s swim program was also added and will begin this fall. The Patty Center offices have been renovated with additions including a new academic center for student athletes and new locker rooms for the swimming and volleyball teams.

Additionally, Dr. Schwartz has been working with the community to develop a UAF sports Hall of Fame. UAF student athletes have excelled in the classroom, with an overall student athlete grade point average of 3.0.

Jake Poole, vice chancellor for Advancement and Community Engagement, thanked Schwartz for her service. "Cory’s efforts have helped raise the national visibility of our Nanook athletic programs,"? said Poole. "We have a strong foundation on which to build. We’ll appoint an interim director until a search can be completed."? In addition to her UAF responsibilities, Schwartz also served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club and performed volunteer work in the community.
