Physicists, dancers and mascots will join UAF Chancellor Stephen Jones on Friday, Aug. 5 to celebrate UAF Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair. More than 15 university departments will participate in the annual event, which falls on opening day this year.

In the Alyeska Tent, at noon, home economist Roxie Dinstel will spice things up with an interactive talk on spice storage, identification and how to make savory sauces. At 2 p.m. the UAF Physics Department will demonstrate why they are psyched about Einstein’s 100th anniversary and at 5 p.m. Shann Jones will show off his fly fishing savvy. Class schedules, undergraduate applications and details on the upcoming fall semester will be available at the University Relations booth in the Borealis Pavilion. Two characters will join Chancellor Jones in greeting guests -- the Nanook mascot and KUAC’s Noddy.

Dancing dames and divas from two UAF clubs will get things moving on the Alyeska Tent stage. The Middle Eastern Dance and Cultural Association performs at 3 p.m. and the UAF Good Time Swing Dance Club will feature a demonstration and lesson for audience members at 4 p.m. Fairgoers can check out several other UAF departments including Alaska Cooperative Extension, the Geophysical Institute, the UA Museum of the North and Tanana Valley Campus.
