A record number of students will be involved in Orientation activities for the third consecutive year at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. More than 800 students and their families are expected to participate Aug. 28-31.

"Orientation is the first step to becoming better connected at UAF,"? said Tammy Tragis-McCook, director of freshman and transfer services. "Part of the complete college experience is enjoying campus life and the lifelong friendships made on campus?"and Orientation gives students a head start."

Parents’ Orientation will take place Aug. 28. Student and Enrollment Services offices will be open for essential services Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Residence Life will open hall doors to students Sunday, Aug. 28, kicking-off the academic year with the annual REV-IT-UP in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland Complex. The event is designed to be a one-stop reception for incoming freshmen students. This year nearly 1,300 students will live on campus in the residence halls. Another 170 students with families and faculty will be living in campus apartments.

The number of Alaskan freshman and transfer students at UAF is on the rise. Admission of both freshman and transfer students within the state has increased by 10 percent over last year at this time. In addition, 164 UA Scholars have been admitted for fall 2005, a 6 percent increase over last year.

Classes start Sept. 1, however students can register through Sept. 9. The class schedule and instructions for registration can be found online. In addition, students can use the Internet to purchase textbooks, view grades and check the status of their financial aid. A complete list of online student services is available at www.uaf.edu.

Note to editors: Students will begin moving into residence halls Sunday, Aug. 28, beginning at 8 a.m. "Rev It Up" activities coinciding with the move will take place in the Hess Recreation Center in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland complex.
