Fairbanks, Alaska--Richard Murphy, one of the most respected photojournalists in Alaska and the United States is coming to Fairbanks next week to share his skills with University of Alaska Fairbanks journalism students, local journalists and the public.

Richard Murphy Murphy, part of an Anchorage Daily News team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 1989, is a three-time winner of the national Pictures of the Year, Best Use of Photographs, award.

He will spend the week of Oct. 31 in Fairbanks teaching, talking and taking pictures. Murphy is scheduled to give a public lecture, "Photojournalism: Helping Search for Truth,"? at Noel Wien Library from 7 - 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Earlier the same day, he will speak at a lecture open to all UAF students. That lecture is scheduled for 9:45 - 11:15 a.m. in Schaible Auditorium on UAF’s campus.

The UAF journalism department is hosting Murphy as part of the Snedden Guest Lecture Series. The series is made possible by an endowment from Helen Snedden in honor of her late husband and former Fairbanks Daily News-Miner publisher C.W. Snedden. This is the second year her contribution has enabled UAF to bring some of the best and the brightest journalists from around the country to Fairbanks.

"Being one of the best at what you do doesn’t mean you live on the East or the West Coast or work in a big city,"? said UAF photojournalism Professor Charles Mason. "Richard Murphy’s work as a photojournalist is admired by newspaper people all over the country and it will be a great opportunity for our students to spend time listening, watching and learning."?
