The University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Choir of the North and Alaska Camerata will present their fall semester concert under the direction of John Hopkins on Friday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. in the Charles W. Davis Concert Hall.

The concert will feature music celebrating fall and the season’s holidays. It will open with Benjamin Britten’s "Hymn to St. Cecelia." The feast day for St. Cecelia, the patron saint of musicians, is Nov. 22.

The concert will continue with a selection of Halloween and fall-themed compositions. It will conclude with Randall Thompson’s "The Testament of Freedom," based on the texts of Thomas Jefferson. Composed during World War II, the piece has long been associated with patriotic celebrations and is presented in celebration of Veterans Day.

The Choir of the North is Alaska’s longest-standing choral organization, having been in existence for nearly 50 years. It serves as a training ground for UAF students preparing to become professional musicians and music educators. For students with other majors, the Choir of the North provides an outlet for their musical interests while they pursue their chosen course of study.

Organized in 1992, the Alaska Camerata is a small ensemble composed primarily of voice majors at UAF. It was formed to challenge and train voice majors in advanced choral and vocal techniques.

Tickets are available in the UAF music department and at the door. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students military, and senior citizens. Children under 12 are admitted free.
