The University of Alaska Fairbanks Percussion Ensemble and the World Beat Ensemble, both under the direction of Associate Professor Scott Deal, will present a concert on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. in the Charles W. Davis Concert Hall. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The Percussion Ensembles are in their 11th year and have performed throughout Alaska and the United States. Recent performances include a February 2005 concert at the MENC Northwest Division Conference in Bellevue, Wash. and a November 2005 performance at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

In October, the Percussion Ensemble went on the road in Alaska, performing at public schools in Delta, Glennallen, Palmer and Anchorage. Those performances included noted jazz drummer Dave Mancini, who has played for many famous jazz and pop luminaries over the past 30 years. The tour was a joint effort co-sponsored by ConocoPhillips, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and the UAF Music Department.

The Dec. 7 concert will feature classical and world music, and will also include marimba ensemble Christmas carols.
