The Alaska Chamber Chorale has been selected, through competitive audition, to perform at the Northwest Regional Convention of the American Choral Directors Association on March 17, 2006 in Portland, Ore.

The invitation is considered a high honor in the choral world and identifies the chorale, an ensemble organized by the University of Alaska Fairbanks music department, as one of the premier choral ensembles in the United States and western Canada. This is the third time the ensemble has been selected to perform at the convention.

The convention, which takes place March 15-18 is expected to draw 1,000 educators, students and administrators from the northwest states, Canada and the United States. The Alaska Chamber Chorale will be one of 20 choral groups to perform before convention participants.

The chorale is also described in the January 2006 Journal of the American Choral Directors Association.

The Alaska Chamber Chorale was founded in 1991 by director Marvilla Davis and is dedicated to the performance of quality a cappella choral music. In keeping with the Fairbanks tradition of collaboration between community and university, the 30-voice ensemble is comprised of auditioned singers from UAF and Fairbanks community. Members include undergraduate and graduate students, staff and faculty at UAF and community members from a full range of occupations.
