Jim Lund, northern Alaska district president for Wells Fargo has been selected to receive the business leader of the year award. The award is given annually by the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Management and the UAF Associated Students of Business.

Fairbanks, Alaska--The University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Management and the UAF Associated Students of Business have selected Jim Lund as this year’s recipient of the business leader of the year award. Lund is northern Alaska district president for Wells Fargo Bank.

This is the 30th year UAF has given this annual award. Recipients are selected for their business excellence, educational support and community service.

Lund began his banking career with National Bank of Alaska in 1979. He worked as a branch manager in Dillingham and Homer before coming to Fairbanks in 1987 to lead National Bank of Alaska’s acquisition of Alaska National Bank of the North. In 2001, he guided the bank’s northern region through the conversion to Wells Fargo Bank.

"Jim has been a tremendous asset to Wells Fargo, our customers and the Fairbanks community. He has led the northern Alaska team with high ethical standards, strong character, financial savvy and a commitment to quality customer service," said Richard Strutz, Wells Fargo Alaska regional president. "We deeply appreciate and commend Jim for his hard work, enthusiasm and valuable contributions to Wells Fargo and our customers over the years."

Lund is also a strong supporter of multiple local community organizations. He serves on the Midnight Sun Boy Scouts Council, the board of North Star Ballet and the UA Museum of the North advisory committee and is an active volunteer in Rotary International and the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce. Lund is a Vietnam veteran and a strong military supporter. In 2004, he served on a search committee of select a new dean for the UAF School of Management.

In addition to his professional and community accomplishments, Lund has a strong commitment to higher education. He encourages all employees to take advantage of Wells Fargo’s educational benefits, which pay for employees to pursue opportunities including graduate and undergraduate degrees at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Lund, his wife Peggy and their daughter Laura enjoy the Fairbanks community and all that it has to offer.

The Associated Students of Business have been honoring community business leaders since 1977. The banquet is an excellent networking opportunity for students, UAF alumni and the business community.

The public is invited to attend the banquet honoring Lund on March 23 at the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with no-host cocktails. A 7 p.m. dinner follows. Tickets are $50 per person. For more information, please call (907) 474-7253 or e-mail fnfmh@uaf.edu, or visit www.uafsom.com to purchase tickets.
