Fairbanks, Alaska--The University of Alaska Fairbanks department of athletics and campus recreation announces the reintroduction of an end-of-the-year all-sports awards banquet. All 10 Nanook athletic teams and student-athletes, their coaching staff and the rest of the athletic department staff will join together at the Princess Hotel at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 14, to recognize and honor team and individual accomplishments from the 2005-06 season.

The evening will include a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and the program beginning at 7 p.m.

Each of the 10 Nanooks teams will recognize their most valuable player and their Dr. Wood scholar/athlete of the year. The athletic department also plans to announce several other awards, including UAF Intercollegiate Athletics Committee male and female student-athlete of the year awards, the athletic director’s coach of the year award, the Harris Shelton spirit award, the UAF student-athlete humanitarian award and more.

UAF’s last all-sports banquet was held in April of 2001. Forrest Karr, the new director of athletics and campus recreation, decided it was time to bring back the all-sports awards banquet.

"We want to recognize the very best of UAF,"? said Karr. "The individuals that will be acknowledged at this banquet have demonstrated integrity, hard work and dedication to pursuing uncommon achievements."?

The cost to attend the banquet is $38 and all tickets must be purchased in advance. UAF and the Fairbanks community are invited and encouraged to attend. For more information please call the UAF Ticket Office, at (907) 474-5977 or visit www.GoNanooks.com
