Fairbanks, Alaska--Eight students were recently selected to receive the Glenn Carrington Memorial Scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year: Patricia Young, Ricky Lind, Marganna Avugiak, Heather Scales, Penny Gage, Ann Wilson, Finely Bock and Deanna Strunk.

Glenn Carrington established Glenn Carrington & Co. in Alaska in 1915. He was a businessman in Seattle and Alaska, was instrumental in founding the Pacific Northwest Trade Association and wrote a book titled "Eighty Years in Alaska and Seattle." His children, Rogers Carrington and Dona Carrington Goudsmit, established this scholarship in his memory to assist rural Alaska students attending UAF who plan to return to and strengthen their local communities.

A total of $14,000 was awarded from the Glenn Carrington Memorial Fund. Additional scholarships were donated to the Glenn Carrington Memorial Fund by International Energy and Resources, Inc; a Dallas-based gold and silver mining company with mines in Arizona.
