Fairbanks, Alaska--Fifteen rural Alaska high school students will be arriving in Fairbanks June 3 to participate in the Rural Alaska Vocational Exploration program, known as Project RAVE.

The action-packed two-week residential academy, run by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Tanana Valley Campus, allows students to explore career, technical and allied health certificate programs at TVC and to connect with potential employers.

"The academy is designed to give rural students an opportunity to see the types of programs we offer and how TVC can help make the transition between high school and college less overwhelming for rural students,"? said TVC Director Rick Caulfield.

In addition to program and career exploration, the academy offers students the opportunity to take courses in applied business, first aid/CPR, leadership and teamwork skills as well as numerous field trips to job sites, according to Drena McIntyre, Project RAVE manager. Students will also meet with local elders and potential employers.

Participants who applied and were accepted into the academy were awarded full scholarships covering all expenses including travel, room, meals, supplies and tuition.
