The Foraker Group this week announced its selection of 13 volunteers to serve as members of the inaugural KUAC/AlaskaOne Community Advisory Council.
The Anchorage-based organization, together with a panel of community representatives, selected the council members after a thorough period of consultation, outreach, recruitment and evaluation. The independent group evaluated the blinded applications and forwarded its selections to KUAC and University of Alaska Fairbanks Vice Chancellor Jake Poole. All chosen members have accepted their invitation to serve on this council, will attend orientation meetings in July and will hold their first formal meeting during the week of Aug. 14.
As members of the council, those selected agree to stay informed of public broadcasting issues, become aware of the needs and interests of the communities served by KUAC and AlaskaOne, and advise the station management with regard to programming goals and service delivery. Members serve staggered three- and two-year terms and are to meet at least four times per year.
"Advisory council members will advise KUAC on a wide range of issues and opportunities from a community perspective,"? explains Poole. "We are fortunate to have members who bring a good balance of diversity and community insight."?
KUAC/ AlaskaOne Community Advisory Council members are: Gary Bender, Cynthia Bethune, Ellen Ganley, William Holman, Steve Hormann, Cecile Larden, Mary Ann Nickles, Connie Page, Alice Palen, Nicole Stewart, Tori Tragis, Marc Wheeler and Lucia Zaczkowski.
"We are pleased excellent candidates chosen by representatives of the community from various geographic regions participated in the application process,"? said Greg Petrowich, KUAC general manager and CEO. "Such participation reflects the community’s considerable reserve of talent, experience and willingness to undertake a volunteer leadership role essential to KUAC’s evolution and continued coordination on behalf of the public broadcasting community."?
