Duct tape may be in short supply this weekend. KUAC’s 10th Annual Red Green River Regatta, where duct tape is indispensable, is Sunday, July 23. The Regatta begins at Graehl Park Boat Launch and ends at Pioneer Park with strategic viewing from Wendell and Cushman Street bridges and along First Avenue.

Rather than a race, the Regatta is a flotilla of fun. Dermot Cole, Lanien Livingston and Phyllis Pendergrast are judging this year’s entries. The judges look for innovative use of the Handyman’s secret weapon (duct tape), imagination, integration of the Red Green theme and the ability to stay afloat. Entrants vie for prizes supplied by Compeau’s. Winners and special awards, including Best Viewed at a Distance, will be announced by Governor Murkowski at the Governor’s Picnic in Pioneer Park at 2 p.m.

The Regatta is a celebration of The Red Green Show, a unique comedy series that airs Saturday nights at 8 p.m. on KUAC-TV and AlaskaOne.

"The Red Green River Regatta is an impressive display of Fairbanksans’ mastery of duct tape artistry,"? says KUAC-TV Programming Director Claudia Clark. "Hardly A-Float, Shark Bait and the Possum Flyer are just a few this year’s flotilla floaters. With names like these it’s bound to be a great reflection on one of KUAC viewers’ favorite programs."?

Check-in and registration begins at 10 a.m. and the Regatta kicks off at 11 a.m. The registration fee is $30 per vessel, which includes an official t-shirt designed by local artist Jamie Smith. Additional t-shirts are available at the Regatta for $15 each.
