The University of Alaska Fairbanks invites the community to celebrate UAF Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair on opening day, Friday, Aug. 4, 2006.

Join UAF Chancellor Stephen Jones and more than 15 university departments for a day of demonstrations, entertainment and information. Show your UAF pride by wearing your school gear or showing your Polar Express card at the door and get $1 off fair admission.

Many performances and demonstrations will take place at the State Farm Entertainment Tent near the yellow gate. Civil engineers from the College of Engineering and Mines will give a structural demonstration at noon followed by a 1 p.m. fly-fishing lesson with Shann Jones, outdoor activities instructor with UAF’s Tanana Valley Campus. Catch UAF’s crowd-pleasing physics department at 2 p.m. for an exhibition of the awe-inspiring aspects of matter and energy. At 3:30 p.m, UAF sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma invites you to share your singing abilities with karaoke in the tent. The Northern Inua performers from the UA Museum of the North will take the stage at 5 p.m.

For information, class schedules, undergraduate applications and details on the upcoming fall semester, visit the University Relations booth in the Borealis Pavilion. Several other UAF departments, including Alaska Cooperative Extension Service, the Geophysical Institute, the UA Museum of the North and Tanana Valley Campus will also have booths in the pavilion.
