The journalist who wrote the book on Internet research and reporting is the first of three speakers scheduled to visit Fairbanks during the fall semester as part of the annual Snedden Lecture Series.

Frank Bass, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and director of computer investigations at the Associated Press, will be in Fairbanks during the second week of October. His free public lecture, "Revenge of the Mainstream Media: Blogs, Podcasts and Online Video,"? is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Noel Wien Library. He will also speak to UAF students and faculty Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 9:45-11:30 a.m. in Schaible Auditorium on UAF’s campus.

Bass is currently assigned to a Washington-based national Associated Press investigations team specializing in multimedia stories. He has worked at The Wall Street Journal/Texas Journal, Houston Post and Alabama Journal, where he shared the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for general news reporting and the 1988 APME Public Service Award for an investigation into the state’s high infant mortality rate. He is the author of The Associated Press Guide to Internet Research and Reporting and has worked as an adjunct journalism professor at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Two other journalists are also scheduled to visit Fairbanks during the fall semester. Gary Cohn, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who works for the Los Angeles Times, will be at UAF the week of Oct. 30. Award-winning Washington political and economic correspondent Peggy Simpson will be in Fairbanks the week of Nov. 27. Both Cohn and Simpson will speak to students and faculty, as well as give lectures open to the community.

The UAF journalism department is hosting the visiting journalists as part of the Snedden Guest Lecture Series. The series is made possible by an endowment from Helen Snedden in honor of her late husband and former Fairbanks Daily News-Miner publisher C.W. Snedden.
