The University of Alaska Fairbanks north campus subcommittee is requesting input on the proposed winter walking trails plan. The subcommittee received comments and survey results indicating support for winter walking trail expansion and has provided a walking trail plan for review. The plan proposes:
- Walkers and skiers side by side on wide trails
- Provide different length routes for seasonal conditions
- Provide dog-free and dog-allowed winter routes
- Establish trail guidelines for mixed uses
- Separate walking and ski uses along narrow existing trails
- Limits trail crossing for safety
- Lighted and unlighted walking areas
- Phased-in plan to adjust for budget restrictions
- Addresses casual walkers, runners and commuters
