Theatre UAF to debut Mamet’s "Oleanna"?
Theatre UAF’s second production of the fall season, David Mamet’s "Oleanna," will open Oct. 20 at 8:15 p.m. in the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre. The play is directed by Anatoly Antohin and will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8:15 p.m. through Oct. 28. A matinee performance will be available on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Theatre UAF box office and at UAF Wood Center, as well as at the door. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, military and UAF employees, and $7 for students.
Theatre UAF’s next show will be Richard Greenburg’s "Three Days of Rain," directed by Carrie Baker. The production opens Nov. 10 and runs for two weekends.

UAF alumnus earns national award
David J. Crouse, an alumnus of UAF’s College of Liberal Arts, won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short-Fiction for his compilation of short stories, "Copy Cats." The compilation was also nominated for the Pen-Faulkner award. The University of Georgia Press gives the award annually in honor of American short-story writer and novelist Flannery O’Connor.
Business administration professor receives service award
The Organizational Behavior Teaching Society recently awarded its 2006 Outstanding Service Award to Susan Herman, a professor of business administration in the UAF School of Management. She was presented the award at the 33rd-annual Organizational Behavior Teaching Conference held in June at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y. The award recognizes voluntary contributions over a significant number of years.
McBeath and Rosenberg announce new book release
UAF professors Gerald McBeath and Jonathan Rosenberg recently announced the release of their new book, "Comparative Environmental Politics." The book is Volume 25 in the "Advances in Global Change Research"? series published by Springer Publishing. The book details the professors’ research into the ways countries vary politically and assesses how those differences affect responses to global environmental issues. McBeath is a professor of political science and has taught at UAF since 1976. Rosenberg is an associate professor of political science and has taught at UAF since 1993.
Usibelli Coal Mine donates to UAF
Joe Usibelli Jr., president and CEO of Usibelli Coal Mine, recently gave two checks totaling more than $170,000 to the UAF Chancellor Steve Jones and Provost Paul Reichardt. Seventy-five thousand dollars will go to support the Usibelli Mining Scholarship. The other check, totaling $96,876, will go toward the Usibelli Honors Scholarship. The donations will be used to help recruit students for the College of Engineering and Mines and to provide scholarships for students in the Honors Program at UAF.
