Governance groups and the alumni association at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a gubernatorial candidates’ forum Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Wood Center Lounge. The Associated Students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, faculty senate, staff council and the UAF Alumni Association are sponsoring the forum. The groups invited Sarah Palin, Tony Knowles and Andrew Halcro. Palin declined to attend the event, citing other obligations. KUAC reporter Dan Bross will moderate the discussion. Candidates will have an opportunity to make opening statements and answer prepared questions. Afterwards, audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions regarding higher education and the future of Alaska.
In addition to the forum, independent candidate Andrew Halcro will be meeting with students, faculty and staff Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 to answer questions and to listen to their concerns from 1-2 p.m. at the Wood Center commons. There will be an informal lunch with Halcro upstairs in the Wood Center from 1-2 p.m. with a question and answer from 2-3 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge. ASUAF, the alumni association, staff council and faculty senate are also sponsoring this event.
Knowles and Palin were not able to schedule a meet-and-greet event due to prior commitments.
