The first ever Woodriver Elementary Science Festival will be held at Woodriver Elementary Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. Students, parents, teachers and the community are all encouraged to attend.

This event is being presented by Woodriver Elementary, in conjunction with UAF’s TASK GK-12 Program. TASK GK-12 fellows are currently involved with the school community as "scientists-in-residence," with a goal to reduce the gap between research at UAF and the K-12 school community by encouraging children to explore science in a fun and exciting way.

At the festival, TASK GK-12 fellows and UAF faculty will lead demonstrations and hands-on activities involving neuroscience, arctic ground squirrels, electricity, fish, engineering, weather and much more. In addition, the TASK GK-12 program is proud to sponsor innovative traveling exhibits from Anchorage’s Imaginarium. The Imaginarium’s main goal is to provide a hands-on science discovery center where people can have fun experiencing science.

As a fundraising effort by fourth- and fifth-grade classes at Woodriver, dinner food will be available for purchase at the festival.
