The Alaska Nanooks athletic department and women’s basketball coach Lynne Andrew hope to pack the Patty Center for this Saturday’s game against in-state rival the University of Alaska Anchorage and promote cancer awareness in the process. To help fill the Patty Center, the game will feature free attendance for all UAF students and children in the eighth grade or below, an information booth with freebies courtesy of the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Fairbanks and halftime promotions including the chance to win a new iPod Shuffle.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association has encouraged all coaches to unify the women’s basketball world to "Think Pink" this weekend in a show of support for all coaches in the profession who are battling cancer. The coaching community is joining together to educate, create awareness and motivate everyone to learn about cancer prevention. Coach Andrew and assistant coach Ben Smith will be decked out in pink and Nanook fans are encouraged to do so also. Those fans wearing pink will also have the opportunity to enter for the chance to compete in halftime contests for prizes, so be sure to incorporate a pink item into your blue and gold.
