UAF Summer Sessions offers intensive "Maymester"?

Fairbanks, Alaska--Summer Sessions at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is offering students a chance to earn three upper-division college credits in just two weeks through its new "Maymester"? session.

Maymester begins immediately after the end of the spring semester and offers six course choices: art, business, communication, early childhood education, justice and political science. Classes meet five days a week, four hours a day for the duration of the two-week intensive session, which runs May 14-25.

Registration for Maymester and the rest of Summer Sessions begins Monday, Feb. 19. For the second year in a row, Summer Sessions will offer in-state tuition rates for all students.

Students can take lower division undergraduate courses for $120 per credit hour, upper division courses for $135 per credit hour and graduate courses for $268 per credit hour.

In addition to offering a choice of more than 250 courses, including travel and weekend classes, Summer Sessions students who wish to live on campus can choose from an assortment of economical meal and housing options. Students who take six or more credits are also eligible for on-campus employment.

When students are not in class, they can participate in a wealth of outdoor and cultural activities on campus and in the surrounding community. Summer Sessions also hosts special events throughout the summer, including a live broadcast of "Talk of the Nation: Science Friday"? with Ira Flatow Friday, June 8 and the Alaska Book Festival July 13-14, as well as free lectures, concerts and movies.

Summer Sessions’ regular schedule runs from May 21 to Aug. 17 and includes a 12-week, two six-week and two three-week sessions, as well as special "weekend focus"? classes. Registration information and a catalog are available online at www.uaf.edu/summer/.
