Climate change author to speak at UAF

Internationally acclaimed author and climate change expert Tim Flannery will present the first of this year’s International Polar Year Visiting Author Series lectures at 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, in the Davis Concert Hall at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Flannery, author of The Weather Makers: How Man is Changing the Climate and What it Means for Life on Earth, began his career as a field zoologist. He has discovered and named more than 30 new species of mammals and was recently named Australian of the Year in 2007.

In addition to his lecture, Flannery will meet with UAF senior geography students on March 12 and will attend a discussion with the University of Alaska International Polar Year postdoctoral fellows. Flannery will also participate in the Great Alaska Weather Modeling Symposium at UAF.

Flannery is available for interviews on Sunday, March 11. Members of the press are also invited to attend his lecture to the UAF geography students on Monday at 1:30 p.m. in room 401 of the International Arctic Research Center on the UAF campus.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host several visiting authors in the coming weeks as part of the International Polar Year Visiting Author Series. The events are free and open to the public.
