Henrichs to succeed Reichardt as UAF provost

Fairbanks, Alaska--University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Steve Jones announced this week that Susan Henrichs, dean of the UAF Graduate School, will succeed longtime provost Paul Reichardt when he retires this summer.

"Paul will leave big shoes, but Susan is up to the task,"? said Jones in a memo announcing her promotion. "She complements the senior UAF administration team and is well-equipped to lead our academic mission with distinction."?

Jones noted that Henrichs has a strong commitment to UAF, an exemplary record of scholarly achievement and proven leadership skills.

"I am thrilled that Susan has accepted this wonderful challenge,"? he said.

Henrichs has been a faculty member at UAF for more than two decades. She came to UAF in 1982 and first served as an assistant professor in UAF’s Institute of Marine Science. She was promoted to full professor in 1994 and has served as Graduate School dean and vice provost since 2003. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and chemical oceanography from the University of Washington and earned her doctorate in chemical oceanography through the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution-Massachusetts Institute of Technology joint program.

For the next four months, Henrichs will collaborate with Reichardt to ensure a smooth transition. Henrichs will officially take over the $176,000-per-year position July 1. As provost, she will oversee all of UAF’s academic programs.

"I aim for our students to have an even wider range of opportunities for active participation in research, scholarship, the arts and leadership, and to further build cooperation between Fairbanks and the community campuses."?
