UAF accepting registrations for 2007 Jazz Festival

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the 19th-annual UAF Jazz Festival April 12-14, 2007. Registration is underway for the festival, which brings hundreds of middle and high school students to campus for performances and intensive workshops with UAF music faculty members and guest artists.

This year’s guest artists will be Chris Washburne and his Latin jazz sextet, Syotos.

Washburne has been called "the best trombonist in salsa."? He is the leader of Syotos, one of the busiest and most in-demand jazz bands in New York. He is currently an assistant professor of music and director of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Performance Program at Columbia University.

The festival will include several concerts featuring students and guest artists. All concerts are at the Charles W. Davis Concert Hall. The performance schedule follows.

Thursday, April 12, 7 p.m.
Chris Washburne and Syotos perform with the UAF Jazz Band
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and military

Friday, April 13, 7 p.m.
Jazz Festival choir and band participants perform
Free admission

Saturday, April 14, 1 p.m.
Honor band and choir perform
Free admission
