Fairbanks, Alaska-The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Diamond Certificate of Excellence to the UAF Tanana Valley Campus’ aviation maintenance technology program. The award is the agency’s most prestigious recognition of aviation maintenance technicians and their employers.

"Our program teaches to the highest standards in the industry and it’s nice to be recognized by our colleagues,"? said TVC program coordinator Arvid Weflen. "We are happy to have been given this honor by the FAA."?

To be eligible for the award, an employer must have at least three full-time technicians and be either involved full-time in the business of maintaining or repairing aircraft and/or their component parts and appliances, or manage an FAA-certified, Part-147 school.

The TVC aviation maintenance technology program is one of the only FAA-approved programs in the nation that can be completed in just 12 months. The program offers an associate’s degree in aviation maintenance and certificates in airframe, powerplant, or airframe and powerplant. The program is designed to prepare students for the FAA’s airframe and powerplant exam. Passing the exam allows students to find jobs in aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification and other maintenance-related fields, as well as perform maintenance on personal aircraft.
