FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fairbanks, Alaska -- The Radio-Television News Directors Association recently announced the 2007 regional winners of the Edward R. Murrow Awards. KUAC’s newsroom received three awards, the most awards for a small-market radio station in the five-state region that includes Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
The association has honored outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast profession.
The association received 3,150 regional entries. Judges gave 587 awards to 280 stations in 14 categories, including overall excellence, spot news, continuing coverage and investigative reporting, among others. KUAC FM reporter Libby Casey won awards for sports reporting with "Midnight Sun Baseball," for continuing coverage with "Alaskan Soldiers’ Tour Extended," and for feature reporting with "Staff Sergeant Eugene Alex Remembered."
"Many of the award-winning stories were about Army Stryker Brigade families in Fairbanks," says Casey. "I am thankful the families trusted me enough to share their experiences with me and KUAC listeners."
The award-winning stories are posted online at www.kuac.org.
Regional winners automatically become eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June. National Edward R. Murrow Awards will be presented in October.
