Science Caf̩ presenter to discuss greening of the Arctic

Searching for the Effects of Climate Change on Arctic Vegetation will be the subject of the next International Polar Yeart Science Caf̩. The talk will take place at the College Coffeehouse, Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m.

Satellite and other data show that the Arctic region is warming and getting greener, but these changes are difficult to measure on the ground. In next week’s Science Cafe, Martha Raynolds of the Alaska Geobotany Center will discuss what scientists do know about climate change and how researchers are trying to find the effects of these changes on vegetation of the North Slope of Alaska.

The IPY Science Caf̩ is brought to you by the University of Alaska IPY Young Researchers’ Network. The network--powered by young scientists from UA campuses across the state--aims to take science off campus through outreach to the public and students of Alaska. Science Caf̩ events are interactive lectures that will take part throughout IPY to give the public a chance to have one-on-one conversations with polar scientists or visiting specialists and to learn about the science that’s happening around the world.
