KUAC TV brings home Emmy gold
Fairbanks, AK--KUAC TV producers are adding to their gold cache as they bring home
television’s top honors to the University of Alaska Fairbanks for the second consecutive
year. The station won in two Emmy Awards categories at the National Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences Northwest Chapter award ceremony held June 2, 2007 in Seattle. The
station was honored with a total of four nominations in three Emmy categories.
Aaron Elterman, now a two-time Emmy-award winner, was honored in the Individual Achievement category for program editor on the "AlaskaOne Mission Spots,"? a series of Alaskan stories tied to the KUAC mission. Michael Letzring, producer/editor and Deb Lawton, associate producer were each honored with an Emmy award in the cultural/historical documentary category for the KUAC TV production, "The 49th Star,"? which tells the story of Alaska’s struggle for statehood.
"The entire project from its inception has been a tremendous honor,"? says Deb Lawton. "What an honor to be able to tell such a compelling story and work with the state’s constitutional convention delegates. The award was a fabulous addition to the experience."?
Michael Letzring, also a two-time Emmy-award winner was also nominated in the individual achievement category for program editor for "The 49th Star."? A fourth Emmy nomination was received for the "AlaskaOne Mission Spots"? in the promotion campaign category; Aaron Elterman, editor.
KUAC TV executive producer and UAF associate professor Claudia Clark attended the event "It’s an honor to be ambassadors for Alaska and KUAC," says Clark. "An Emmy gives our programs, station and university more exposure and provides more opportunities for people to see Alaska stories, told by Alaskans."
The Northwest Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences serves television professionals in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Montana. This is the third consecutive year KUAC has earned Emmy-award nominations. Aaron Elterman and Michael Letzring brought home an Emmy last year for the promotional spot for "The 49th Star."? KUAC was also nominated in 2006 for its travel series, "Anywhere, Alaska,"? and in 2005 for its Alaska heath series, "Vital Signs."?
