Ethiopian filmmaker Tikher Teferra will headline the first in a series of summer events in the inaugural African Movie Festival Saturday, June 30 at 5:30 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium on the UAF campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The festival is organized by Africa Illuminated, an extension of the student group Black Awareness Student Union. The festival will feature twice-monthly African movies and group discussions throughout the summer. Organizers hope to make it an annual event.

Saturday’s event will feature clips from Teferra’s soon-to-be-released film, "Man of the Millennium," as well as others. A discussion of Ethiopian film and filmmakers and the industry’s political, social and economic pitfalls will follow.

Teferra’s visit to Fairbanks is sponsored by Tanana Valley Television, which co-produced "Man of the Millennium."
