The University of Alaska Fairbanks is sponsoring UAF Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair, opening day Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. Bring your UAF Polar Express card and receive $1 off adult fair admission.

Fairgoers will have an opportunity to cheer on their favorite university contestant in a local version of "Are you smarter than a Fairbanks fifth-grader?" The competition begins at 1 p.m. at the State Farm tent. Contestants include Vice Chancellor Jake Poole and applied business professor Charlie Dexter.

Visit the UAF main booth in the Borealis Pavilion for information, class schedules, undergraduate applications and details about the upcoming semester. Several other UAF departments will have booths at the fair: Cooperative Extension Service, the Geophysical Institute, the UA Museum of the North and the Tanana Valley Campus. In addition, the UAF Alumni Association Fairbanks Chapter hamburger booth will be open for business and staffed by teams of present and future alumni.
