Daniel J. Robison, assistant dean of the College of Natural Resources and associate professor of forestry at North Carolina State University is visiting the University of Alaska Fairbanks this fall as part of the American Council on Education Fellows program.

Robison, one of 38 participants in the leadership development program, will spend two weeks at UAF this September and return again after Thanksgiving. In addition to experiencing many facets of the university, UAF Chancellor Steve Jones said that Robison will have a chance to offer his insight on UAF and its operations.

"Often, we who are so close to the day-to-day operations of the university are less able to discern critical avenues for improvement and efficiencies, or identify new opportunities in teaching, research, or service," said Jones. "Dan can ask questions we might overlook, forcing us to see more clearly and imagine what might not otherwise have occurred to us. We’re fortunate to have Dan spend even this limited time with us."

Robison has taught in the forestry and environmental resources department at NC State since 1997 and served as the assistant dean in the College of Natural Resources since 2004. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Syracuse University’s College of Natural Resources in 1982 and 1986, respectively, and earned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993.

Established in 1965, the fellows program is designed to strengthen and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing promising senior faculty and administrators for leadership positions in college and university administration.
