The Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is observing Banned Books Week from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6.
Under the theme, "Free People Read Freely," the annual event reminds Americans that freedom of speech and the press should not be taken for granted.
This year, the library’s display will focus on how the First Amendment protects the work of book authors and their readers, with a comparison of censorship in other Western nations that do not have such strong free speech protections. Viewers will be invited to share their opinions both in the library and online.
The Banned Book Week display will be viewable on the fourth floor of the Rasmuson Library and on the library’s web page at www.uaf.edu/library.
