Theatre UAF will open its production of Shakespeare’s "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," Nov. 9 at 8:15 p.m. in the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre. The opening performance will be preceded by Speakeasy, a wine tasting fundraiser that begins at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall. Tickets to Speakeasy are $30 and include the wine tasting, cheese, fruit and crackers, and admission to the show. Funds raised will go toward Theatre UAF scholarships and educational activities.
It is believed that "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" was first performed between 1594 and 1595. A romantic comedy from early in Shakespeare’s career, it is a story of two young men, their friendship and their search for love. The Theatre UAF production, directed by Carrie Baker, sets the play in the glamorous jazz-age of the 1930’s.
All performances of "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" will take place in the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre in the Fine Arts Complex located on the UAF Campus. The play will run Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10 and 16-17 at 8:15 p.m. and Sunday Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available at the UAF Wood Center or at the Theatre UAF Box Office, which also accepts credit card orders over the phone at 474-7751. The box office is open Monday through Friday from noon-5 p.m. and two hours prior to each performance. Admission to the show is $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors, military and UAF employees, and $7 for students with ID.
