Dana Glessner, reservoir engineer for Chevron MidContinent/Alaska, presents a check to Shirish Patil, professor of petroleum engineering and department chair at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Chevron North America Exploration Production Company donated $10,000 to UAF in October during the 2007 Engineering Career Week. The department will use the money to support student development and scholarships. The SPE Student Chapter at UAF will receive $2,500 for their organization.

UAF offers both baccalaureate and master’s degrees in petroleum engineering as well as a Ph.D in engineering with petroleum engineering concentration. The Chevron company hired two UAF graduates in 2007 and plans to hire two more upon their graduation in 2008.
